Allied health

Expert support. Human connection.

Allied health at Banksia Care is neuro-affirming, strengths-based and delivered by practitioners who understand disability from the inside out.

Important: Allied health services are delivered by qualified, registered practitioners. All services are subject to practitioner availability, NDIS funding eligibility and applicable professional registration requirements. Information on this page is general in nature and does not constitute clinical advice. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs and current availability.

What we offer

Allied health disciplines.

Direct services

Speech pathology

Communication, language, AAC (augmentative and alternative communication), social communication, feeding and swallowing. For all ages and communication profiles.

AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) includes high-tech devices, PECS, sign systems and low-tech communication boards. We support participants who use any form of communication. We do not treat verbal speech as the goal. We support the communication system that works for the individual.

Occupational therapy

Sensory processing, fine motor skills, daily living skills, assistive technology, home modifications, school and work participation.

OT at Banksia Care is sensory-informed and strengths-based. We work with the person's environment and routines, not just isolated skills. Active support principles guide how we work alongside participants, building capacity through doing rather than doing for.

Behaviour support

Positive behaviour support (PBS) planning, functional behaviour assessment, restrictive practices oversight and reduction, and staff training.

Positive behaviour support (PBS) is a person-centred framework that identifies the function of behaviour and addresses underlying needs, rather than simply managing or suppressing behaviour. All behaviour support is delivered in accordance with NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements. Where a participant's plan includes regulated restrictive practices, Banksia Care complies with all NDIS Commission authorisation requirements and works toward reduction and elimination of those practices over time.

Psychology

Banksia Care does not deliver psychology directly. We refer participants to trusted, registered psychologists in the Gregory Hills, Camden and Campbelltown area, practitioners we know and work alongside regularly.

Referral pathways cover mental health, emotional regulation, anxiety, trauma, psychosocial disability and wellbeing. We coordinate with the receiving psychologist to ensure continuity across the participant's broader support plan.

Music therapy

Banksia Care does not deliver music therapy directly. We refer participants to registered music therapists who use music as a therapeutic tool to support communication, emotional regulation, social connection and wellbeing.

Music therapy can be particularly effective for participants who find verbal communication difficult or who respond well to sensory and creative engagement. We can discuss whether a referral is appropriate for your support plan.

Physiotherapy

Banksia Care does not deliver physiotherapy directly. We refer participants to registered physiotherapists for mobility, strength, pain management, postural support and physical rehabilitation.

Physiotherapy referrals are coordinated within the participant's support plan. We work with the treating physiotherapist to ensure support workers understand and can assist with any prescribed exercises or mobility strategies.

Exercise physiology

Banksia Care does not deliver exercise physiology directly. We refer participants to accredited exercise physiologists (AEPs) for structured physical activity programs that support health, function and independence.

Exercise physiology can be funded under NDIS Improved Health and Wellbeing supports. Programs are tailored to the individual and may target cardiovascular health, strength, weight management or goals specific to the participant's needs.

Social work

Banksia Care does not deliver social work directly. We refer participants and families to registered social workers for psychosocial support, advocacy, crisis intervention, carer support and navigating complex systems.

Social workers can assist with housing, family support, financial hardship, safeguarding concerns and connecting people with community resources. We coordinate with the social worker to ensure their involvement is reflected in the participant's broader support plan.

External services & referrals

The following services are not delivered directly by Banksia Care. Where a participant's support plan includes these needs, we facilitate referrals to trusted, registered practitioners in Gregory Hills, Camden, Campbelltown and surrounding areas and coordinate with them to ensure continuity of support.

Communication & AAC

All communication is valid.

We support participants who communicate in all ways: speech, sign language, PECS, high-tech AAC devices, low-tech communication boards, typing, pointing and any other method that works for the individual.

We do not treat verbal speech as the goal. We treat effective communication, in whatever form that takes, as the goal. Our speech pathologists are trained in AAC assessment, implementation and ongoing support.

We also work with support workers and families to build communication-friendly environments and consistent communication strategies across all settings.

Behaviour support

Behaviour is communication.

Behaviour support at Banksia Care starts with understanding: what is the behaviour communicating? What is happening in the environment? What does the person need?

We deliver positive behaviour support in accordance with NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements. All restrictive practices are subject to proper authorisation, oversight and active reduction planning.

Our goal is always to reduce the need for restrictive practices, not to maintain them as a management tool.

Behaviour support practitioners at Banksia Care hold appropriate NDIS registration and comply with all relevant NDIS Commission requirements for behaviour support.

Early childhood referrals

EACH referrals and early intervention.

The NDIS Early Childhood Approach (EACH) is the entry point for children under 9 who have a developmental delay or disability. Banksia Care works alongside EACH partners, early childhood educators and families to support this pathway, from first referral through to ongoing NDIS supports.

EACH is delivered by NDIS-funded Early Childhood partners: organisations approved by the NDIA to provide early intervention support and connect families with the right services. An EACH partner can help families access early intervention supports without a formal NDIS plan, and can support the transition to a full NDIS plan when the child's needs require it.

Banksia Care can receive referrals from EACH partners and early childhood services, and can refer families to EACH partners where a child has not yet been connected. We work with the child's existing team, including EACH partners, educators, paediatricians and families, to ensure supports are coordinated and consistent.

Referral from an EACH partner

If an EACH partner has identified that a child would benefit from Banksia Care services, we welcome direct referrals. We will liaise with the EACH partner to understand the child's current supports and goals before commencing.

Referring a family to an EACH partner

If a family contacts Banksia Care about a child under 9 who does not yet have an NDIS plan, we can assist them to connect with an EACH partner in the Gregory Hills, Camden and Campbelltown area. EACH partners include organisations such as KU Children's Services and other approved providers.

Transition from EACH to full NDIS plan

When a child transitions from EACH supports to a full NDIS plan, Banksia Care can provide continuity of support. We work with families and EACH partners to ensure the transition is smooth and that existing therapeutic relationships are maintained where possible.

School-age transition (age 6–9)

As children approach school age, their support needs and NDIS plan structure often change. Banksia Care can assist families to navigate this transition, including school readiness, changes to therapy goals and coordination with school-based supports.

Banksia Care is not an EACH partner. We are an NDIS registered provider who works alongside EACH partners and early childhood services. Families who are unsure whether their child qualifies for EACH supports should contact the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or visit ndis.gov.au.
